Misfuelling Petrol Cars with Diesel – not covered by many policies!

September 29th, 2010 No comments
Misfuelling, by putting petrol in a diesel car is not covered by almost a quarter of breakdown insurance policies. Recent analysis by Insurance company, Defaqto showed that 23 % of motor breakdown policies excluded cover if you fill your car up with the wrong fuel!
Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at Defaqto said: “Drivers putting the wrong fuel into a vehicle not only face a huge repair bill but may also find that their breakdown policy doesn’t provide cover for their vehicle to be towed to a garage. Even those motor breakdown policies that do cover such an eventuality will tend to find that the extent of the coverage is limited to towing the car to a garage or to their destination. Our analysis found that 23% of motor breakdown policies don’t cover breakdown following misfuelling and, in such cases, if the breakdown company appears, the motorist will most likely face an additional charge for having the vehicle towed to a garage.”
This is a costly mistake for any motorists and it’s a common problem. The AA report that every year over 100,000 motorists misfuel and that fuel problems are one of the ten most common problems dealt with by their breakdown vehicles.

The most economical solution to this problem is a small investment in a product called Diesel Key. This smart little gadget that is a direct replacement for a filler cap; simply unscrew and remove the cap, and then screw the Diesel Key device in its place, proceed as normal to refuel with a diesel nozzle. Once the diesel nozzle is inserted the device will accept the nozzle and open up an internal latch to let fuel flow to the tank. If a petrol nozzle was entered it would butt up against the device, will not open the latch and quickly alert the wrong nozzle is being used.

AdBlue Key

June 18th, 2010 Comments off

It only takes 5ml of Diesel to 20 litres of AdBlue in the AdBlue tank to turn it all into paste.

This effects the SCR systems dosing unit and catalytic converter which puts the truck into limp home mode.

Even minimal damage means the replacement of the dosing unit, more extensive damage can result in the replacement of the SCR system.

A leading UK manufacturer has indicated that 50% of call-outs are as a result of cross contamination the other 50% being accidents.

AdBlue Key is a built-in mechanism which only opens when the AdBlue nozzle is inserted (manual fill or pumped), the Key has been designed so that if you do try to put Diesel into the Key and any Diesel is released, it will run off through the drain off holes and none can enter the AdBlue tank .Adblue Key is made of the same polyoxymethylene (POM) materials as the rest of the SCR system, conforming to the same rigorous testing.

W ith a guide RRP of 89.00 + VAT, AdBlue Key this a cost effective guard against massive repair costs!

Diesel In AdBlue

May 13th, 2010 Comments off

AdBlue is the registered trademark for AUS32 (Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5%) used to reduce emissions  from the exhaust of diesel motor vehicles. It’s a new concept in many vehicles.

Adblue vehicles are a concern in cases of misfuelling as they are highly susceptible to contamination. As little as 10ml of Oil present in a 70 litre fill can  cause irreversible damage.  There’s a misunderstanding that you cannot insert a diesel pump  in an AdBlue tank filler neck as they’re different sizes. However you merely have to insert the nozzle into the hole and the splash-back from the gun still goes into the tank and it’s enough to permanently damage the AdBlue.

Mis Fuelling an AdBlue Truck Tank

Truck Operators are seeing a new problem since the arrival of AdBlue.

Mis Fuelling the AdBlue tank with Diesel is a growing problem and major concern as the repair costs are resulting in thousands.

Some say you can’t get the diesel pump spout into the AdBlue tank filler neck–they’re different sizes. You don’t have to you only need to stick the nozzle into the hole pull the trigger and the splash-back from the gun as the cut-out works still goes into the tank and it’s enough to ruin the AdBlue.

AdBlue is highly susceptible to contamination and as little as 10ml of Oil present in a 70 litre fill can corrupt the system causing irreversible damage.

aide automotive will soon introduce an AdBlue Mis fuelling Device to stop Diesel contamination.

DieselKey prevents misfuelling a diesel car with petrol

One of the biggest causes of car insurance claims could soon be a thing of the past thanks to a  device that prevents drivers from misfuelling  petrol into a diesel car.

It is thought that around 150,000 drivers put unleaded fuel into a diesel car each year, and this leads to a number of car insurance claims, many of which ar turned down and seen as negligence on the part of the driver.  This can then lead to costly repair bills for the car owner.

However, a simple device DieselKey prevents misfuelling. With the high cost and inconvenience of a diesel engine being filled with petrol, this device will cut out the risk of expensive repair costs and vehicle downtime.

Misfuelling – Putting Petrol in a Diesel car is a common problem!

December 11th, 2009 No comments

Misfuelling has been a common  problem for the Suffolk Police, with over £10,000 worth of repairs bills being caused from putting petrol in a diesel car over the past 5 years.

“Unfortunately, even police officers and staff are prone to making mistakes such as this and it is down to human error,” said a Suffolk police spokeswoman.
Norfolk Police are also having problems with mis-fuelling when they announced earlier this year that blundering police officers had cost over £30,000 in the last six years by misfuelling. The largest amount was during 2007-08 when the repair bill for repairing vehicles damaged by mis-fuelling topped £8,000.

Diesel Key can save these costly bills that are generated by putting petrol in a diesel car.  This simple to install device replaces the existing filler cap and, once fitted, prevents you from putting  the wrong fuel into your diesel car.
