Fuel Theft Accounted for Nearly Two-Thirds Of All Thefts In 2011.

Some 4,417 freight crimes were reported to TruckPol in 2011, of which load theft (including fuel) and attempted load theft accounted for the majority (69%). Vehicle thefts represented 29% of the total, with the remainder made up of robbery, deception, warehouse robberies and hijacks Fuel theft accounted for nearly two-thirds (64%) of all thefts from LGVs last year with police recording 1,605 separate incidents in 2011. In its final set of freight crime statistics, compiled before its closure in March, TruckPol revealed the second most common theft was vehicle parts stolen from lorries (233 incidents), attributed to the high price of metal found inside components such as catalytic converters and batteries.
